RTO Office Khairatabad (TG-09): Services, Timings, Documents and Contact Details

Know TG-09 RTO address, timings, vehicle fees, life tax, services and online application options.

Anil owns a car and is buying a second one for the family. Telangana taxes a second car in the same owner's name under a different set of rates.

So the name on the registration certificate can change what he pays. He wants that figure before agreeing on a price.

The Khairatabad office is RTA Hyderabad Central Zone and it registers vehicles under the code TG-09. It handles licences, registration, fitness, permits and tax for the central part of the city.

Telangana calls these offices RTAs, short for Regional Transport Authority. Most people search for them as RTOs and both refer to the same system.

The department also renders the code as TG009 in its own systems. TG-09 is how it appears on a number plate.

Office timings and application intake windows

The office is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though applications are only accepted until 2:00 p.m.

This gap catches people out. Arriving at three in the afternoon finds the doors open and the counter closed to new submissions.

Number reservations close an hour earlier than everything else. If a fancy number is what brings you in, treat one o'clock as your deadline.

Which areas come under TG-09

Central Zone covers the commercial core of Hyderabad and the neighbourhoods around it.

The jurisdiction includes Khairatabad, Somajiguda, Ameerpet, Punjagutta and Jubilee Hills. It also covers Banjara Hills, Begumpet, Nampally, Abids, Himayat Nagar and Sanath Nagar.

Zone boundaries are set by the department. Confirm your own locality on the Telangana Transport site before travelling.

If your vehicle already carries a TG-09 number, this office holds its record.

How to register a vehicle

Registration runs in five stages and a dealer usually files it for a new vehicle.

  1. Submit Form 20 with your supporting documents, at the office or on Parivahan.

  2. Pay life tax and the registration fee. Keep the receipt.

  3. Vehicle inspection. An officer checks the engine and chassis numbers.

  4. Verification and approval. The office assigns a permanent registration number.

  5. RC issued. The certificate is dispatched and can be viewed on the RTA-M app.

Remember the two o'clock intake deadline when you plan the visit.

Registration fees are set centrally and are the same at TG-09 as anywhere in India.

How much is life tax on a new car in Telangana?

Telangana charges life tax at first registration on a sliding scale from 13% to 21% of the vehicle's cost.

The rates below were set by G.O.Ms.No. 53, dated 13 August 2025, which replaced the Sixth Schedule with effect from 14 August 2025.

Table: Life tax for a new private non-transport car under the standard Sixth Schedule

Cost of vehicle

Life tax at first registration

Below Rs. 5 lakh

13%

Rs. 5 lakh to below Rs. 10 lakh

14%

Rs. 10 lakh to below Rs. 20 lakh

18%

Rs. 20 lakh to below Rs. 50 lakh

20%

Above Rs. 50 lakh

21%

Not every private car uses these percentages. Vehicles owned by a company or institution fall under the Seventh Schedule. So does a second or subsequent personalised vehicle owned by the same individual and the Seventh Schedule can attract higher rates.

This is the point Anil needed before signing. A second car in his own name and one in another family member's name fall under different schedules.

Confirm which schedule applies to your purchase with the office before you budget. On a car above Rs. 20 lakh the difference is not trivial.

Why insurance comes before registration

A vehicle cannot be registered in India without a valid insurance certificate in force.

Third-party cover is the legal minimum under Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. New private cars are issued a bundled policy. It carries three years of third-party cover with one year of own damage cover.

Insurance is needed again at ownership transfer. The policy must be moved into the buyer's name separately. Otherwise, the new owner holds no own damage protection.

Driving without valid insurance carries Rs. 2,000 for a first offence, rising to Rs. 4,000 for a repeat. You also remain personally liable for third-party compensation awarded against you.

Comprehensive cover is worth weighing against third-party alone in central Hyderabad. The zone combines dense commercial traffic, heavy street parking and monsoon flooding around Hussain Sagar.

Zurich Kotak General Insurance Company (India) Limited covers cars and two-wheelers. Options include comprehensive, third-party and standalone own damage policies .

Conclusion

Plan your visit around two o'clock rather than five. The office stays open longer than its application counter.

Check which schedule your purchase falls under before you agree a price. Life tax on a private car runs from 13% to 21%. A second personalised vehicle is treated differently.

Confirm your zone before travelling. Hyderabad runs five and the Central Zone covers only the centre of the city.

Anil checked which rate applied before agreeing a price. The difference came to more than anything else he could negotiate.
