A third-party motor insurance is mandatory in India. A large number of people already own vehicles, and every day, many more motor vehicles are being purchased. However, just owning an insurance policy is not enough. Policyholders can benefit from an insurance policy only if they inform the insurance company about the claim on time.

Importance of Informing About the Claim on Time

A car insurance claim should be filed promptly to benefit from cashless repair services across the insurer’s network of garages. If the garage is not part of the network, you can file a reimbursement claim. Timely claim filing ensures quicker vehicle repairs and faster reimbursement.

Motor Insurance Claim Process

The car insurance claim process involves two main steps and applies to two-wheelers, private cars, commercial vehicles, and other types of vehicles:

  1. Submit a claim intimation form and inform the insurer about the claim, including policy details.

  2. Submit all necessary documents such as the Registration Certificate (RC), driving license, and valid identity proof along with the form.

A vehicle inspection will be conducted within 24 hours. If the claim is made on a Sunday or public holiday, the inspection will take place on the next working day.

There are two types of motor insurance claims:

Cashless Claim

The confirmation and settlement are done directly at a preferred network garage. You will need to pay any deductibles not covered under the insurance before collecting your vehicle.

Reimbursement Claim

After inspection, the vehicle is repaired and delivered once the bills are cleared. Payment is initiated within a week of receiving the relevant documents.
