Hyundai originated primarily in the country of South Korea in the hands of the founding chairman Chung Ju-Yung, the Hyundai founder. In the Korean language, the term “Hyundai” stands for “modern”.
Yung had developed allies with the military forces, especially after World War II. But, even before that, he was trying out his career in multiple fields. His highly developed American military contracts were a significant boost at the time of the Korean War and held the early seeds of the future foundation of Hyundai. Hyundai was established in 1947 in the name of Hyundai Motor Company.
During the post-war industrialisation and reconstruction, Chung won some very significant government contracts for infrastructure. Although there was a temporary setback during the North Korean invasion, it soon found its track after the UN forces retook Seoul.
Hyundai came to India in 1996. The journey had not entirely been a very smooth bed of roses. There have been several ups and downs, but Hyundai came out victorious as the most popular car brand in a vast country like India.
Hyundai Santro was their primary launch in the Indian auto market. This model was marketed in 1998 and is still well remembered and adored. The introduction of this hatchback improvised the market demands, which were contemporarily loaded with sedans and ambassadors. It proved to be an immense success.
After Santro, Hyundai launched Accent. It is still available and adored in the market. Multiple variants of this model are available to suit the varied requirements of the wide customer base.
With this, Hyundai became the second-largest car manufacturer in the country, posing tough competition to giants like Maruti Suzuki, Honda, Tata, and many others.
Creta is one of the recent releases of the company. For the last couple of years, it has been considered to be the best-selling car in India. 16 variants of this SUV have attracted significant attention.
