Looking to get your vehicle registered in Kerala? Our latest blog post covers everything you need to know about the RTO Office and its procedures for motor insurance.
The Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Kerala is a government-run institution in India. RTO, also known as the District Transport Office (DTO) or Regional Transport Authority (RTA), works under the direction of the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It has certain important functions that ensure the safety and management of the vehicles and drivers on the road. Let’s first understand the functions.
The RTO office is in charge of maintaining the database of drivers and automobiles currently on the road in the state of Kerala. This database is crucial for identifying untaxed vehicles and their owners. Such information is crucial in a number of situations, such as when a vehicle enters another Indian state or when it travels faster than the maximum speed limit.
RTO Kerala fulfills the key duties of issuing NOCs, administer the registration of new vehicles, issuing duplicate and international driving permits, and taking the driving tests for issuing driving licences, without which it is illegal for someone to operate a vehicle on Indian roads.
