The essentials of car tyre maintenance

Many individuals and families love to travel by car. Long drives, short-distance travel, family outings, or simply commuting to the office car have always been considered a safe mode of transport when travelling either for work or leisure. With a car, one has the freedom to go at one’s own pace and be entertained as per one’s preferences. The car has become one of the most integral parts of us and every car owner loves his/her car. However, loving a car must include taking care of the tyres as it endures bumps, twists, and turns of the road. Therefore, looking after them will ensure that your vehicle is running smoothly and safely.

What do you mean by tyre care?

Tyre is one of the unsung hero components of the vehicle. it is very important to take care of the tyres as they keep us safe. Taking care of the tyres includes two crucial aspects namely rotation and replacement. Knowing when and how to do these two aspects will help keep your vehicle in prime condition, save your money, prevent accidents, and extend the life of your set of wheels.

Car tyre rotation – why and when?

As the name suggests tyre rotation refers to shuffling the tyres of your vehicle periodically. Tyres rotation is very important as tyres experience wear and tear differently – front tyres are affected due to steering and breaking while rear tyres are affected due to engine power. Rotating wheels on cars ensures that they do not lead to premature wear and tear, fuel efficiency, and even car insurance prices.

How often should one do tyre rotation?

Most car manufacturers recommend a car tyre rotation every 6000 to 8000 km. But it is also recommended to keep an eye out for any of the following signs of tyre wear and tear.

  1. Uneven wear and tear on one side then it is time for tyre rotation

  2. The uneven wear pattern on the surface of the tyre indicates misalignment issues

  3. Vibration of the wheel while driving

In any of the above-mentioned cases, it is advised to visit the car mechanic and get the tyres checked and if need be do a car tyre rotation.

When to replace car tyres?

Keeping a close watch on the tyres is helpful but even after certain years, it becomes imperative to change the vehicles as they cannot last forever. Therefore, replacing them is crucial for safety. In case you observe tread depth, cracks, bludge, or are old they need to be replaced.

Thus, regular car tyre rotation and timely replacement not only ensure a smooth and safe riding experience but also is beneficial for car insurance premiums. Worn-out tyres are dangerous and can cost you immensely.

So, remember to take care of your car tyres regularly by rotating or replacing them promptly when needed.
