Understand the procedure for cancelling your bike's Registration Certificate (RC) after it has been scraped. Find out what documents you need and how to initiate the cancellation process.
Buying comprehensive or standalone damage-covered two-wheeler insurance is always a wise decision. After all, this safeguards you against financial blows that can hit you if your bike is damaged. But do you know, if the repair costs exceed, your bike will be declared as a total loss.
If this unfortunate incident happens to you, you can scrap your bike. However, you need to follow the proper rules for scrapping two-wheelers. When you plan to do so, you should also cancel your bike’s registration certificate. As per Section 55 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988), it is mandatory for a bike owner to revoke the bike RC after scraping. This will allow you to sell your bike's expensive components to the scrap dealer at a decent price. Read on to understand everything, from the RC cancellation application procedure to rules for scrapping two-wheelers.
Check out the list of documents that you need to submit to the RTO if your bike is scraped:
The original RC of the bike
The chassis number of the bike
Third-party insurance certificate
An affidavit from the scrap vendor that can verify that your bike is beyond repair
Bike's recent PUC certificate.
Take a look at the following steps to know how to cancel a bike RC after scraping:
First of all, you need to confirm from your insurance provider whether your bike is a total loss
Inform the RTO where your bike is registered about the total bike loss. The respective department will forward your application to the RTO office where you registered the bike. You can report this issue within 14 days/ two weeks. After this period, RTO will not be accountable for registering your complaint about bike scraping.
You would then have to go to a scrap vendor who is registered. There, you can negotiate the prices of your bike's damaged parts, allowing you to sell your bike's pieces at good prices.
Get a scrap certificate or affidavit from the RTO registered scrap vendor. This certificate will confirm that your bike has been scrapped.
Then, the RTO will receive clearance from the police. This clearance proves that the police have verified the particulars of the accident that caused serious damage to your bike.
Finally, the RTO will provide you with a non-utilisation certificate for your bike.
If your bike is beyond repair, you should apply for its registration certificate cancellation without wasting time. Otherwise, misuse of your bike's documentation is possible. Fraudsters can purchase a new bike by using your bike's documents and can commit a crime. Additionally, not cancelling the registration may cause complications with your bike insurance records. Furthermore, never scrap your vehicle without applying for its registration cancellation.
