It is recommended to insure your favourite electric scooter against any possible occurrence, be it natural or man-made. According to the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, if your vehicle has above 250W of motor power and exceeds the speed of 25 km per hour, it is necessary to have a third-party insurance on your electric scooter. There are a host of electric rides available in India that require e-scooter insurance for road use. Zurich Kotak offers electric scooter insurance for renowned brands like Ampere, Ather, Bajaj, Bgauss, Hero Electric, Okinawa, Ola, TVS, and many others. Possessing an e-scooter insurance keeps you secure from accidents, mishaps, or unpredictable events, including theft. Given the fact that e-scooters are not immune to such occurrences, it is always better to secure them with an electric scooter insurance policy against every disaster coming your way.
Superior savings: An e-scooter insurance is considered to be the most efficient way of saving significant expenses of maintenance, damages, repair, and replacement. Moreover, purchasing the e-bike insurance online can maximise your savings as you end up paying lower premiums against your e-bike insurance policy.
Comply with the legal norms: As mentioned earlier, it is mandatory in India to have an electric bike insurance cover for your e-bike. This e-bike insurance policy helps you abide by the law and saves you the trouble of paying hefty fines.
Keeps you secure financially: Any unpredictable event can cost you a fortune without an e-scooter insurance. Avoid incurring a heavy sum during such situations by ensuring that your ride is covered under the e-bike insurance policy.
Now onto the most crucial question of them all! What is the determining factor for calculating electric bike premium? To determine electric bike premiums, various factors are taken into account including kilowatt capacity, make, model, and age. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) regulates third-party electric bike premiums and electric scooter premiums. It considers the e-bike’s kilowatt capacity to calculate the third-party insurance premium rates. The premiums for electric bikes and electric scooters in India are as follows:
TWO-WHEELERS WITH KILOWATT CAPACITY (KW) | PREMIUM RATE FOR 1-YEAR POLICY (in ₹) | PREMIUM RATE FOR LONG-TERM POLICY (5-YEAR) (in ₹) |
Less than 3 kW | ₹ 457 | ₹ 2,466 |
More than 3 kW but less than 7 kW | ₹ 607 | ₹ 3,273 |
More than 7 kW but less than 16 kW | ₹ 1,161 | ₹ 6,260 |
More than 16 kW | ₹ 2,383 | ₹ 12,849 |
Buying electric bike insurance for your e-bike might seem like a daunting task, but it is actually not if you know what it entails. Before you decide to buy the plan, make sure that you compare the e-scooter insurance prices and opt for the one best suiting you. When looking for e-bike insurance policies online, you ought to consider buying an electric bike insurance plan with extensive coverage against all third-party liabilities, damages, and unforeseen events. It also helps to understand the inclusions and exclusions of the insurance policy before finalising on the plan. Zurich Kotak is one of the most trusted e-bike insurance available online offering the best coverage and services at a reasonable price range. As per the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, it is mandatory to insure your electric bike if it’s running on a motor functioning above 250W and exceeds 25 km/h in speed.
No. You cannot insure your electric scooter without registration if you own one which has a motor operating above 250-watt and exceeds the top speed of 25 kmph.
